TV STYLE: Arrow

Back in March I was invited to the set of the hit CW show, Arrow to meet with the talented costume designer Maya Mani and her team. I love the fact that Arrow is filmed locally here in Vancouver, and that Maya and her team were welcoming, sweet and very professional. The fashion on Arrow is fantastic in the way that it is fantasy inspired but very wearable in everyday life. That way you can take your favorite items worn on the show and add them into your daily wardrobe.

When I met with Maya they were in the midst of filming the final 3 episodes of the season. I was so thrilled to see Brooklyn Designs worn on the last episode and on one of my favorite characters Felicity, played by the gorgeous actress Emily Bett Rickards.

STYLE MOMENT: Coachella Festival Style

Spring is here, the weather is warming up and April brings one of the most coveted concert festivals the year has to offer. Of course we're talking about Coachella. There are 2 things we need to know about this 2 weekend festival:

#1. The musical line up is UNREAL! We're talking about amazing artists like Beck, Lorde, Queens of the Stone Age, OutKast, Group Love, Arcade Fire, Bastille, Broken Bells, oh my goodness I could go on forever about the line up at Coachella. But there is one more thing that is equally important other than the music.....

#2. The Fashion.

We love a great maxi dress, and this season brings so many amazing options whether you love tie dye, solids and one of this seasons big trends, Florals. Channel your inner bohemian with a gorgeous floral maxi dress and add your favorite accessories to create your own personalized Coachella festival style.

STYLE MOMENT: Print Pants

If there is one thing we love here at Brooklyn Designs, it's got to be fashion! Learning the latest trends in our favorite magazines and following super stylish fashion bloggers is a favorite past time, and so far this Spring is not disappointing.

One trend that we're loving is printed pants. Whether you choose a pair of super comfy & stylish leggings or try out the new silky pajama pant styles, you are sure to find something to add to your wardrobe. An easy way to wear a printed pant is to pair them with a solid top and add your favorite jacket to finish off the look. If you're choosing a shoe we definitely suggest an ankle boot. Pick a pair with a chunky heel or a stylish flat with embellishments to add some personality to the look.

For our latest campaign we chose these amazing tights from DEX Clothing. We LOVE this tie dye inspired print and the neutral colour palette. We paired these leggings with a soft pink dolman top from Forever 21 & leather booties from The Bay.

Of course no look would be complete without your favorite accessories! We always think layered necklaces are the perfect choice for everyday, like our Jorja and Felicity shown here. Add your favorite pair of earrings and a few bracelets and you have a complete on trend look.

New Spring Designs!

February is here and we are lucky enough to be enjoying blue skies and sunshine here on B.C.'s South West Coast! Our Surrey studio is full of light and our new Spring designs are starting to be delivered to our favorite stores. Look for new nature inspired pieces (our favorite!) and lots of gorgeous gemstones and geometric shapes.

Style Series: Simple Layers

I have always been drawn to the simple things in life and I find more and more that this is also how I dress, simply. With that in mind, this is also the way I design. Brooklyn Designs is about offering easy to wear versatile pieces for your jewelry wardrobe. One of the best things about offering simple jewelry designs to you is that you can layer these pieces together however you like. Being able to wear 2 or 3 of your favorite necklaces together allows you to create your own unique look and celebrate your own style.

One of my favorite bloggers is Vancouver based Alexandra Grant, aka To Vogue Or Bust. Alex loves to layer and is a real master at it. Whether it's clothing or jewelry, she always looks effortlessly chic.

Taking cues from fashion bloggers is a great way to add to your own personal style and they really help you translate what you read in fashion magazines into real life. We love how Alex took 3 of her Brooklyn Designs necklaces and layered them together to add personality to her basic wardrobe. Jewelry is the easiest way to add character to any outfit and layering adds versatility and uniqueness.

Style Series: Fashion For Less

I am so excited to be starting a new blog series for all of you ladies! I will be posting a new way to amp up your wardrobe featuring our products (jewelry, scarves & hair accessories) and some of our favorite brands.

Scandal

When we first started watching ABC's hit show Scandal last Spring we were instantly hooked! This show is very fast paced and packed full of drama! The lead role is played by Kerry Washington and not only is she unbelievably gorgeous but she is a fabulous actress and makes Olivia Pope come to life on the screen. As if we couldn't love this show anymore than we already do, our jewels have appeared on some of the characters this season! Sometimes they are hard to spot though since it's so fast paced and really, let's be honest, it's very hard to focus on their jewelry since the plot is so amazing!

New Changes for 2013

The Fall/Winter season was incredibly busy and we had such a fantastic year for 2012! We are so excited to be launching our new Spring 2013 Collection and can't wait to share everything with all of you!

Over the next week we will be uploading and refreshing our website with all of our new designs. One of the changes we are most excited about is that we have named all of our jewels this season. Now you can shop our collection by name, for example our Long Tree of Life Necklace that was featured in the Vancouver Sun December 8, 2012 is now called the Vitalia Necklace. This change has been a long time coming and we're thrilled to have finally implemented this into our new collection.

We will also be dedicating time to updating our blog more frequently. Our Facebook page is a fabulous way to stay up to date and keep in touch with us and all of the new and exciting things that are happening at Brooklyn Designs. Our jewels will be seen on some new T.V. shows in the next little while also and we look forward to sharing all of the details with you as soon as we can!

Burgundy

This Fall one of our favorite colours is back in style, Burgundy. With it's rich tones and different hues, Burgundy is an incredibly flattering shade for every woman to wear. The Secret Circle

Sometimes in life you are given opportunities and they can be incredible gifts. Last year I was given an awesome opportunity to meet with the costume designer for The Secret Circle and she loved my jewelry and used it for the show! I watched every episode in a way that I never had watched t.v. before. It was such a thrill to see my creations worn a major American network show and my jewels were on nearly every episode too. I started watching The Vampire Diaries as well and found myself hooked on these two fantasy genre shows. The Secret Circle was getting better and better with every episode and the witchcraft and characters were played so well. It was such a disappointment to find out that the network had cancelled the series and wasn't bringing it back for a second season. The season (series) finale was SOOO good, the story lines that could have continued in to the second season were going to be great to watch. I am still crossing my fingers that another network will pick it up for a second season.

It was so great for me to have had such an incredible opportunity and I will never forget it. The Secret Circle will be a fabulous memory for me in my jewelry career. Here are some of the pieces that were worn on the show.

We have just finished another photo shoot with Laura from Magnolia Photographic and couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. Her sister Susan was gracious enough to model for us again and she looks stunning!
