I can't believe it's November already! The weather has been so sunshiny beautiful here in Metro Vancouver that I didn't even realize how late in the year it was already. Although I do enjoy the rain, it's been so fantastic to have a September & October full of sunshine.

We here at Brooklyn Designs have some great events happening this month. The first is a trunk show at Belle Maison in Langley. This will the opening night celebration of their new location and they have invited us to set up all of our sparkling jewels for the evening. Come down to the new Belle Maison location in Langley at unit #170 20330 88th Avenue and get started on your holiday shopping. This is also a great time to pick up some fabulous earrings to wear at that upcoming party on your social calendar too. See you there between 6pm to 9pm on Wednesday, November 16th!

The next event happening this month is the semi annual Fab Fair!! We love the Fab Fair and it's location at the Heritage Hall on Main St. The art deco decor of the Heritage Hall is really fantastic and it has such a warm & inviting vibe that we always look forward to. Come down the the Fab Fair on Saturday November 19th & Sunday November 20th from 11am to 5pm each day and shop from gorgeous hand made jewelry, bags, accessories & more. We will be showcasing our whole collection and some really great one of a kind pieces too at great price points. December 25th is creeping up on us and this event is a great start to crossing off those items on your lists. It's also a great time to bring your significant other and show them all of the things that you hope to see under the Christmas tree this year ;)

Shopping locally handmade products is a wonderful way to support your local economy and you can feel good about yourself by doing so too!

Full Circle with The Secret Circle

What a thrill it was last night to see my jewelry designs air on The Secret Circle! This has been a dream come true for me and I couldn't be more elated to have had the opportunity to work with the amazing costume designer & her assistant for the show.

The Secret Circle is getting better each week with the plot & character development growing through each episode. Not to mention it's scary too!

This show hits a special spot for me in my life and brings things a little full circle. I was always busy with acting classes from the tender age of 5 to senior high. I had always dreamed of seeing myself on t.v. or the big screen and now with my jewelry I can see my childhood visions come to light.

I remember the first time I was introduced to Days of Our Lives and loved it from the start. I had taken a hiatus from watching the show but with the birth of my son I found myself hooked to the never ending drama once again. One of the characters on the show was played by Shelley Hennig and to watch her now on The Secret Circle & to be wearing my jewelry designs is really exciting for me.

The last reference to the show is one of it's filming locations. My mom moved my brother & I around a lot and our last & longest stop was in my favorite place, Steveston. To see my jewelry being worn on a major US television network show, that is filmed where I grew up is really great and definitely brings this opportunity for me full circle.

I can't wait to watch the rest of the season & see how the plot thickens! The show brings together fantasy, thrills & just plain old scariness and I am loving it.

Hart of Dixie &The Secret Circle

Wow! So many things have been happening these past few months I have barely had a chance to breathe! I have been given the wonderful opportunity to have my jewelry used on 2 new CW Network shows airing this Fall! I know, a lot of exclamation marks so far ;)

The first show that I have had the opportunity to work with is Hart of Dixie starring Rachel Bilson & Jaime King. I am fortunate enough to have them both wear my jewelry designs on the show and I can not be more excited. They have a large selection of Brooklyn Designs and I am very excited to see which ones make it on air. I will keep you posted on which ones were sent and are being used. This show looks great, the perfect show for us girls. Hart of Dixie will be starting Monday, September 26th at 9pm after Gossip Girl.

If that weren't enough, I have also had the utmost pleasure of meeting with the costume designer for The Secret Circle. This show looks amazing, the story line is fantastic and I really think this is going to have a huge following. It is based on a series of books and is centered on a young girl who's mother dies and she slowly learns that she is a witch and becomes a part of "the secret circle" of witches that she is introduced to. I am ecstatic to have my jewelry being worn by 5 of the main characters so far. This is truly awesome for me and I cannot wait to see the show! The costume designer is really great and I am so happy to have had the pleasure to meet & work with her. The Secret Circle will be starting Thursday September 15th at 9pm after The Vampire Diaries

NEW, NEWS, NEW STUFF

Okay, so I am not so good at keeping up with my blog! I am on twitter & facebook too much I guess :-)
Well there are some things happening at Brooklyn Designs though so I will share with you. There is another new retailer that I am thrilled to have my jewelry in, Cadeaux Gifts in New Westminster. It is a huge gift store at the end of Columbia St. that is a dream store for any woman who loves jewels, shoes, clothes and anything gifty. It is a store that you would expect to see in Vancouver but luckily is in New West instead. The staff are fantastic and it has an inviting atmosphere. But best of all they just opened up a spa in the back of the store so you can get a relaxing massage and a fabulous pair of earrings all in one stop! I will also be there for a trunk show sometime this month with a couple other jewelry designers. When the date is finalized I will be sure to tell you all.

I had the opportunity & pleasure of meeting actress April Telek yesterday at Blushing Boutique. She will be wearing Brooklyn Designs at Vancouver Fashion Week 2011 and for her film premier Amazon Falls this week and I am so excited! Not only is she stunningly gorgeous, she is sweet & kind to top it all off. With an impressive resume, we are lucky to have her as a Vancouver based Canadian Actress.

I am also looking forward to a special Trunk show at Fine Finds at the end of the month on Saturday April 30th. I will be there to assemble and create custom Inital charm necklaces especially for Mothers Day. I love having the opportunity to meet my customers! Interacting with the women who wear & buy my jewelry is such a pleasure and to be able to do it at Fine Finds is fantastic.

Hi Everyone!
Wow, it's been a very long time since I have blogged. I have been so busy that I just haven't had time to do some regular things in my life let along blog unfortunately. But I do want to update everyone on some new retailers this year. The first one is The Gorgeous Store in Calgary, Alberta. The second new store to carry Brooklyn Designs is Wish On A Star in Port Moody. Which by the way has been voted the best gift store in the city for 11 years in a row!

WEST COAST WOMENS SHOW

I am super excited to announce that I will be sharing a booth at the West Coast Womens Show with Fine Finds Boutique at the end of this month!
Being one of the top 50 fastest growing trade shows in North America, the West Coast Womens Show is also the largest woman's event in B.C.! I can't wait for it and I am busy preparing lots of stock for the 3 day event. Wow, it's been a long time I blogged!
I have my last show of the season coming up this weekend at the Heritage Hall on 15th & Main St. in Vancouver. It is the Fab Fair and it's full of jewels, admission is $2 at the door and it's open from 11am to 5pm Saturday & Sunday. My fellow jewelry designers Toodlebunny, Jolie Mack Designs & Jessica Jansen Designs will all be there too which I am excited about. It's always great to catch up with people in person (not just on facebook & twitter).

Another event that I am taking part in this weekend is the annual Leo Awards. I was lucky enough to have designer Chloe Angus ask me to help her dress the models for the awards for the second year in a row. If you haven't seen Chloe Angus designs then you are missing out. Her gowns are gorgeous and she is popular from her button wraps that she sells at local markets & on the Shopping Channel as well. Her partner Sarah Maclachlan is fantastic too (no, she's not the famous singer :-). They are also opening up their own flagship store on Dunbar & 27th in Vancouver, which is very exciting. They have refurbished the original hardwood floors and have an open concept studio in the showroom as well so that you can see them working as you shop. I am lucky enough to have my jewelry in their store which will have a soft opening this Monday and then a grand opening later this month.

Well, I have almost finished taking all of my photos of my new collection for Spring 2010. Making everything is the easy part, taking photos and updating my website are the hard parts! For every piece I make I have to take a few photos, then photoshop everything. Then for updating my site I have to do write ups for everything, price and upload of all my photos. I also have to create a new catalog for wholesale buyers. And let me tell you that is A LOT of work. Especially for a full-time mom of a super cute 3 year old boy :-)

When I was creating everything I really wanted to have more leaves, keys and one of my favorites - filigree. I was thinking of romance, little gold and silver flowers & roses and vintage looking satin Vermeil keys that my customers could wear and feel special about. To me filigree has an old world feel to it which added to the romantic feeling I wanted to have in my collection as well. Leaves are extremely popular for me so I wanted to carry on with that trend by bringing in a couple of new leaves with simple gemstone briolette charms that could be worn everyday with something simple like a boyfriend t-shirt & jeans or going to work in a suit or cute skirt.. Being from British Columbia I can't help but love leaf pendants and earrings since I am surrounded by them everywhere I go.

"Everyday" seems to be a theme for me as well. When I make a purchase I really think about where my money is going and I think that my customers do as well, which is why I want them to be able to wear my jewelry designs everyday with everything that they own (and I hope that they do!). I also want there to be a value to my pieces, something that will be passed on through generations.

Well it's that time of year again........... when I am ready for big changes! For me, the Fall 2008/Winter 2009 season has come and past and new designs are on the way. If only I could change my web site already!

Spring has sprung in my world and the fresh flowery colours and warm sun are on my mind (and my design table)! I have almost finalized the new Spring/Summer 2009 Brooklyn Designs Collection and I can't wait to get it all posted on my sites. The pictures have been taken and prices have been set for this fresh and feminine collection so keep on the lookout for new designs to pop up on my etsy listings!

Long Time No Blog.....

Wow, I have been so busy I haven't had a minute to post anything new on my blog since July!! I'm not complaining though, busy is good. A lot has been happening since July, I have booked 3 markets for this Fall. The first market is the Portobello West Market on Sunday, September 28th 12pm to 6pm, I will also be a vendor at the October 26th and November 30th markets as well. I really love the Portobello Markets and am thrilled to be showcasing there once more. I am also a vendor at the Fab Fair Winter Show on November 22nd and 23rd, another great venue at the Heritage Hall on Main Street from 11am to 5pm both days. And finally the South Arm Community Centre Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday November 15th, there I will be selling all of my left over stock from past seasons at unbelievable prices! If you are looking for some great jewelry at fabulous prices be sure to attend, when I have the time schedule I will post it here for you.

I have my Fall 2008 Collection in stores now, I also have a brand new look at Changes Clothing on West 10th. There are lots of great cameos, brass charm earrings and of course awesome stretch bracelets in Mother Of Pearl, crystals and wood for $15.00 each. Fine Finds and House of Jewels are stocked with pretty baubles and Briers on West 4th will have all new Fall stock on Monday September 22nd to shop from.

My Jimdo site has been updated with the new collection and my "real" web site will be updated by October 1st for everyone to see. I am really proud of my latest collection and would personally wear everything from the line. I think that's the one of the hardest things, deciding which pieces I will make for myself without making one of everything!!

Well, I have been busy busy working on my Fall/Winter 2008 collection. I have been designing so much that I have lost some steam, don't know where to go next! I have decided to divide the collection into 3 catagories, Simplicity, Cocktail and Luxe. Thus there are three defintitive themes I have been creating and I am quite excited to showcase them this September. There will be lots of Mystic Topaz and Quartz, soft greyish blues, prasiolite and so much more. Brushed Vermeil and Sterling Silver with simple everyday necklaces and earrings, lucky 4 leaf clovers (agian!) and petite sparkly everything! I can't wait to show you it all when I update my site very very soon. Also look for Brooklyn Designs coming to Feast in North Vancouver in the next few weeks.

Citrine and Vermeil Leaf Charm Necklace $70

Well the Fab Fair was fabulous! I was beside a really great girl Jessica designer of Fluxe Design Jewelry and Mo came to help me out again (Mo is my mother in law). Everyone who walked through the door was in a great mood, even though the weather was horrible, you know cold and rainy in June! I made some great sales and handed out all of my etsy promo pamphlets and tons of business cards too. My grandma came by which was really great since I haven't seen her in about 9 months and a few other people came by too to show their support. Oh and I bought a really awesome white leather cuff from Catalyst Reaction, I just love their stuff it's great, leather cuffs and belts and so on painted with designs. I like it too because it's the complete opposite of my jewelry and they look really cool on. Oh and Nancy who runs the Fab Fair was really cool, the atmosphere was nice and relaxed and I just thought it was such a great venue and show!

On Saturday I also went to my 12 year high school reunion, and only 25 of us showed up out of a grad class that was over 700. It was great to see all of those that came but really lame of everyone else who didn't! I just think that when are you going to get the opportunity to see all of these people that you saw 5 days a week for 5 years? I had a great time in high school, mind you I skipped a lot, and was really looking forward to seeing a lot of people who decided not to show. Oh well.

I am very excited about this weekend! I will be participating at the Fab Fair Bags and Bling event at the Heritage Hall on Main Street in Vancouver on June 7th and 8th from 11 am to 5pm.

I will have some new designs to sell and am looking forward to meeting new people and designers too. I think it's really important for all of us designers to get to know one another because creating a local designer community can do wonders for us all!

Portobello Success

Well, Portobello was a huge success! I had some really awesome sales and met some great people while I was there last Sunday. Mo was wonderful as usual I am glad I asked her to come along and help me. I am busy getting ready for this May's market, restocking and making new items to showcase and am crossing my fingers that I get accepted for more markets!!

This Sunday, April 27th will be the debut of Brooklyn Designs at the Vancouver Portobello West Market. I can't express how excited I am to be able to showcase my work at this event! I have been applying since last October and I finally was accepted and I can't wait to have more opportunities to showcase at the market. There will be over 100 talented designers and artists displaying their wears and I am very proud to be amongst the crowd. I have some new designs to show as well, in May I will have my new wire wrapped creations on display for sale as well.

These are absolute stunners, so sparkly! Gorgeous gold Swarovski crystals and gold-filled beads are wrapped onto gold-filled marquise. The perfect earring for any special event especially an extravagant wedding.

NEW DESIGNS

Well, I have put to use the new beads that I have been receiving! I love the cubes, they are so fabulous and versitile, I love the onion shaped briolettes as well! I have also done some more wrapped designs like these hoops above, I like the look of the beads on top of the hoops. They're also really light to wear. I have sooo many ideas in my head right now and so little time to create! I am starting to design my Fall/Winter 2008 Collection and am very excited! I have some really great colours and combos to introduce for Fall since I have way too much designs for Spring this year. I thought that I should hold off on introducing too much to my current line and spread it out through the year.

I have some new pendants for Fine Finds and House of Jewels. Some great Sterling and Vermeil puffy coins with tree motiffs on them and some gold dipped 4 leaf clovers too. I also have a new store to announce in a few days, very excited for that.

WEB SITE UPDATE

I just wanted to let everyone know that my web site is being updated and should be up and running in about two weeks time. I am very excited! When you are an artist/designer you get really sick of seeing the same things all of the time (well at least I do). I am really happy to see a fresh updated site soon, I have finished all of my text and picture taking thus far. I hope to add some new wire-wrapped designs in about a months time to the site too.

I also have a mother load of new beads coming in this month! I am really thrilled to be receiving these pretties, I can't wait! So I will have so many new designs coming! Lots of new shapes like faceted cubes and onion briolettes. I have never had these before and am excited to hold them and figure out what I will do with them. Most of them are curtesy of Norah62, I am addicted to her site. I can't believe how excited I get about beads. I used to only get excited about jeans, I would buy a new pair every month, but now it's beads, beads, beads and more beads!!

NEW OPPORTUNITIES

I am really pleased to announce that I will be a part of the Style Bakery's "Designers on the Rise" series for Spring 2008. I have been a fan of this site for a few years now and am so excited to be a part of it. I really hope that this will bring me new opportunities in business, as well as a whole new market of customers and fans. This is an American based site, therefore I think that the possibilities will be endless, just like Etsy, where I have already been approached by 3 American retailers.

As well, I am also really excited about Portobello West! I will finally be a part of this open market in April and May of 2008. I have also wanted to be a part of this for a while too. Unfortunately, Jaxon came at a time when the market started, therefore I was not able to apply. But this year I hope to be a part of as many market dates as Carlie will allow!! I also hope that this opportunity will help to open some more doors here in the Metro Vancouver area. I think that with my new designs, and collection the local retailers who are attending Portobello West will really "see" how fantastic my designs are and the quality of my work as well.

So, here's to wanting and hoping for the best......

WOW! I am really loving these new earrings that I made today! This is what I was talking about when I said that I wanted to take my jewelry to a whole new level. Wire wrapping is definately for me! I love the way that I was able to perfectly match the Swarovski crystals to the Chrysocolla gemstone, they are identcal colours. I will be designing a whole new batch of jewelry tomorrow and this weekend and I really can't wait. I haven't been this excited about designing in a very long time. But I did get some sad news today that Lily and Lola is closing at the end of the month, I will miss Brenda and all of my sales on Dunbar :(

I have been having lots of fun with my photos believe it or not! I am practicing a lot and am finally taking some really good quality pics that I can chop up and frame now too. I especially like putting my name on them as well. If you could see the photos that I sent to Nicole for my website last Fall you would really know how much work she put into them to make them presentable for my site! Thanks again Nicole for doing such a great job and I hope that when you are redoing my site for Spring you will be very pleased with my new photos.

WIRE WRAPPING!!

Here is an example of my wire wrapping designs. This is the first pendant, it is Swarovski crystals and gold-filled wire. Very simple but intricate and stunning! I really enjoy this new process, so much better and different from the old Mother of Pearl days wouldn't you say? I offer this piece in 10 different colours and welcome your comments or inquiries.

WELCOME TO BROOKLYN DESIGNS BLOG

I have just started this blog to keep everyone updated on current events, new stores, and especially new designs!

I am starting to venture off into a new genre of jewelry design, wire wrapping. I have a few new designs to add to my already gorgeous wire wrapped bangles, hoop earrrings and teardrop pendants. I feel that in order to set myself apart from other Vancouver designers this is an excellent start (too often I have found similar designs to mine, basically copying me bead for bead!!) I am so excited to complete this new collection because it is truly gorgeous and unique! When I am finished I will post these pics here for all to see.
