INSIDE THE WEDDING: Favourite 2014 Wedding Trends Part 1

Guest blogger Stephanie Mosher of Glass Slipper Event Planning is sharing her favorite wedding trends for 2014 on our blog today. Stay tuned for another fab 5 trends for your special day!

It’s wedding season and I’m excited about some of the trends for 2014!
Planning your wedding? Well take note of these popular trends, as these are ones that I think will stand the test of time not just one season! Here are 5 of my top 10 favourite wedding trends for 2014.

BLUSHING BRIDES
Blush, pale peach and nudes are so popular this year! This colour palette adds a feminine, romantic touch! It works well paired with other neutral colours like cream or ivory as well as gold. Mix it up by adding a bold colour like navy into your colour scheme.

MIX & MATCH
Whether it be your bridesmaids dresses or your table décor such as vintage vases or tea cups, mix & match is in for 2014. Say goodbye to the “matchy matchy” and stop worrying if everything is the same shade. Bridesmaids dresses look great in different shades creating an ombre effect or allowing bridesmaids to pick a style of dress that compliments their body type and mason jars or vases of varying sizes and styles create a cute DIY feel.

SLOW MOTION PHOTO BOOTH
The photo booth is nothing new but at a recent wedding I coordinated, they had a slow motion photo booth! It was busy all night! Guests were returning covered in glitter and silly string and having a great time! The video makes a great keep sake for the couple and hilarious shots of all your guests! The standard photo booth is also evolving with more DIY props and chalkboard signs.

#UNPLUGGED WEDDINGS
Who doesn’t love a hashtag? However, a trend I am seeing more and more is the “unplugged wedding”,  #putyourphoneaway, where couples are asking guests to check there smartphones at the door (sometimes, literally!).  Let’s face it, you hired a photographer for a reason so let them capture those images of your special day just make sure to let guests know of your wishes and make it easy for them to access pictures of your big day afterwards.

ALL THINGS THAT GLITTER
“Some girls are born with glitter in their veins”
Metallics and glitter can add a fun pop to a neutral palette and look great with dark colours as well like black or navy.  Incorporate sparkle in your wedding gown,  accessories or table décor such as your number numbers, vases or candles. My top favourite metallic items are mercury vases or candle holders and many decorators are now offering a sparkly sequin table runners or chair sashes! Be careful how much you add though, it doesn’t need to look like Tinkerbell danced across your table. A little glitter or gold can go a long way!

CELEBRITY STYLE: Alison Sweeney

A couple of months ago I was contacted by one of Alison Sweeney's fan groups, FL Ejami, to create her a custom necklace. I was so honoured to have been able to make this piece of jewelry because it is a very meaningful necklace that had a lot of thought and love put into it from her fans. Alison Sweeney's fan base is not only huge, they are such dedicated fans. If you follow Ali on twitter, you will see her many posts of all the gifts and well wishes she has been receiving since her announcement on Ellen that she will be leaving Days Of Our Lives after 21 years of playing her character Sami Brady.

Here is a picture of Alison Sweeney wearing her custom made necklace.

I too am a huge fan of Ali, and will miss her on Days Of Our Lives. I have watched her since she started and Sami Brady will definitely be missed. Thanks so much FL Ejami fans for giving me the opportunity to create this piece for you!

SUNDAY EATS: Asian Lettuce Wraps

Recipes that are simple and delicious are a prerequisite in my household, and of course they need to be healthy too. One of our go to meals is this recipe for Asian Lettuce Wraps. I love playing around with a list of ingredients and putting a healthy twist on things by substituting some of the ingredients with healthier options.

In it's original version, this recipe calls for ground pork and white rice. I like to to swap those ingredients with extra lean ground turkey breast and a sprouted rice & quinoa blend for a healthy kick and added flavour. All Recipes is a great place to source new recipes for your household and share some of your favorites too. I hope you are able to try this simple and delicous meal and experiement with the recipe to make it a healthier option for you and your family.

CELEBRITY STYLE: The Message Tee

Let your shirt do the talking.
When it comes to celebrity style we are definitely more interested in what they wear in their day to day doings, than the glamourous red carpet looks they spend hours prepping for.

One celebrity style trend we're loving is the Message Tee. We've seen countless celebs like Reese Witherspoon, Rhianna and Eva Longoria sporting this casual everyday look and we love to see these tees paired with a simple delicate necklace.

Whether you style your tee with your favorite pair of relaxed boyfriend jeans or a feminine skirt & heels, it's all about spreading the message that you want to express that day.

You can easily achieve this chic celebrity look and incorporate it into your everday wardrobe. San Francisco based fashion blogger, Kate of The Fancy Pants Report loves to style her casual west coast look with these fun graphic tees too!

INSIDE THE WEDDING: Bridesmaid Trends for 2014

Wedding season is offically starting and we're taking a look at some of our favorite trends with a new blog series, INSIDE THE WEDDING. We will feature special guest bloggers and include lots of great fashion and wedding trend tips just for you!

Today we're talking about Bridesmaid trends and what you can expect to see, and possibly wear this season. One of our favorite trends is Lace. We love the delicate details and feminine qualities of lace, and we also love these 3 examples and how they incorporate other popular trends you will be seeing on a bridesmaid near you.

Left: Noir By Lazaro, Centre: BHLDN, Right: Liz Fields

This Spring and Summer you can expect to see lots of fabulous fashion inspiration, including one of our faves, Pastels. From mint green to lavender, Pastels are a big trend both on the runway and in bridal. Peplums and one shoulder styles are also a big trend that can be very figure flattering and sophisticated. Belts are popular this year and are a great way to show of  a tiny waist and add a little extra touch to a simple dress or gown. We've seen lots of colour blocking this season from designers such as Miu Miu, Stella McCartney and Prada, we love this little black and white combo from Liz Fields that also adds a touch of floral with it's cute waist broach.

With all of these fine details what is a girl to wear for accessories? We love the idea of keeping it simple with some of our delicately designed pieces.

Shop Mika, Danielle and Sonia

Wearing a bold and feminine earring is a perfect way to accessorize your bridesmaid dress. You can opt for a nature inspired pair like our popular Mika earrrings. Or add a touch of pastel with our Danielle earrings in this pretty Aqua Chalcedony stone. If you're looking for something a little more glamourous, our Sonia earrings will add some sparkle to any bridesmaid look.

What are some of your favorite bridesmaid trends this season? We'd love to hear in the comments below!

TV STYLE: Arrow

Back in March I was invited to the set of the hit CW show, Arrow to meet with the talented costume designer Maya Mani and her team. I love the fact that Arrow is filmed locally here in Vancouver, and that Maya and her team were welcoming, sweet and very professional. The fashion on Arrow is fantastic in the way that it is fantasy inspired but very wearable in everyday life. That way you can take your favorite items worn on the show and add them into your daily wardrobe.

When I met with Maya they were in the midst of filming the final 3 episodes of the season. I was so thrilled to see Brooklyn Designs worn on the last episode and on one of my favorite characters Felicity, played by the gorgeous actress Emily Bett Rickards.

Emily wore our popular Katia Earrings and Leandra Druzy Necklace on the season finale of Arrow.

We can't wait for season 3 to start in the fall and to see more Brooklyn Designs on the female characters!

GET THE LOOK: Met Gala Fashion Inspiration

On May 5 the celebrities and the media descended on New York for the annual Met Gala. The white tie theme for this year’s fundraiser had them dressed to the nines, but that is always the case for this red carpet fashion show. As you scroll through the parade of ball gowns and floor length sheaths, you’ll notice a surprising lack of necklaces although earrings adorned almost every ear.

Stars like Beyonce and Anne Hathaway wore chandelier earrings that almost brushed their shoulders.

 Shop Johanna and Sonia

But my runaway favourite was the button earrings worn by the likes of Lupita Nyong’o and Blake Lively.

 Shop Laurel and Sophie

If necklaces did appear they graced the collar bone in a loose choker style like on Kendall Jenner and Karolina Kurkova

Shop Miranda

Alternatively they draped down into the plunging cleavage on Rosamund Pike and Cara Delevigne.

Shop Mila and Felicity

Add in a few standout hats, jewelled heads bands, and bling rings and the Met Gala 2014 didn’t disappoint.
